Early life in New Jersey and New York; career in Hollywood from 1932: screenwriting, B picture production, head of production at Radio Keith Orphium, later at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer; resignation from Metro, 1956; involvement in Screen Writer's Guild, political views and activities, Communists in Hollywood and the Un-American Affairs Committee; social and intellectual life in Hollywood; 3-D phenomenon; state of comedy; impact of the agent on motion pictures; impressions of various films and personalities. Audio is comprised of narrator's excerpts from the Westinghouse Broadcasting Company's radio program series "Memoirs of the Movies"
