Scope and Contents

Early life, arrrival in America; the fur business, penny arcades, nickelodeons; Famous Players and making the first feature picture; merger of Lasky and Famous Players to become Paramount Pictures, 1916; competition; evolution of the motion picture industry, including the star system, block booking, the independent producer. Audio is comprised of narrator's excerpts from the Westinghouse Broadcasting Company's radio program series "Memoirs of the Movies"
