Career in silent films, "Don Juan," 1926; transition to sound, "Desert Song," 1929; typecast as Oriental villainess, late 1920s and early 1930s; "The Thin Man," 1934: effect on career; suspension from Metro-Goldwyn, Mayer, effect of publicity; Red Cross World War II; "Best Years of Our Lives," 1946; UNESCO, 1945-59; political climate of Hollywood 1940s and 1950s and its effects; impressions of John Barrymore, Frank Capra, W.S. Van Dyke, Louis B. Mayer, others. Audio is comprised of narrator's excerpts from the Westinghouse Broadcasting Company's radio program series "Memoirs of the Movies"
