Scope and Contents

"Movies and Music" is an episode of the "Memoirs of the Movies" series, produced by Group W of the Westinghouse Broadcasting Company in collaboration with Columbia University's Oral History Research Office. The theme of this episode is the artistic contribution of music to film, with specific attention to music during the silent film era, musicals in the 1930s, and the Roxy Theater. The episode is hosted by Dorothy Lamour and features the recollections of Jeanette MacDonald, Gene Kelly, Francis X. Bushman, Allan Jones, Arthur Freed, Dorothy Fields, Ray Henderson, Franz Waxman, Jack Shaindlin, and Dr. C. A. J. Parmentier
