Biographical Note

Zhang Zhiben was born in Hubei, and while he was studying in Japan from 1900 to 1905, he joined the Tongmenhui. He was close to groups opposing the Nanjing fraction. He was also associated with the Nationalist Government in drafting the constitution in 1933. During the Sino-Japanese War, he was the Secretary-General of the Legislative Yuan and a member of the National Assembly. He was a Cabinet Minister during the Nationalist retreat to Taiwan

Scope and Contents

In the interview, Zhang discusses his education, his role in the 1911 revolutions, his political activities, and important figures he knew up to 1927. He also talks about the Nationalists' defeat and retreat from mainland China. The interview is accompanied by 60 pages of English abstract and translation
