In 1920, he went to Cuba to reitalize the KMT and raise funds for Sun Yat-sen. In 1922, he followed Dr. Sun from Shanghai to Guangdong. During the Northern Expedition, he served as a financial officer in Jiangxi and Nanjing. From 1927 to 1929, he was the Secretary-General to the Mayor of Shanghai, Zhang Dingfan (張定璠). In 1933, he joined Huang Fu in Beiping and served in the Shanghai municipal government from 1935 to 1937. During the Sino-Japanese War, he worked in Chongqing and Macau.
