Scope and Contents

The collection is comprised of recordings collected by Rutgers University professor Dr. Joseph F. Wilson documenting events held by the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters and civil rights organizations. The collection includes recordings of 1950s gatherings of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters, including the union's 1st Triennial Convention and 15th Annual Conference. The collection also includes recordings of two events of the National Committee for Rural Schools and one event of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Speakers featured in the collection's recordings include A. Philip Randolph; Theodore McNeal; Thomas W. Culpepper; E. D. Nixon; Martin Luther King, Jr.; Hubert H. Humphrey; Clifford P. Case; and James McBride Dabbs
