Childhood: Englewood, New Jersey: rural community, later development, interest in horseback riding; Pomona Community College 1959-1961; apprenticed to farrier; work in various machine shops 1961-1963; Lamont-Doherty Earth observatory machine shop 1963-present; reminiscences of working environment, leadership of Angelo Ludas, social atmosphere, scientist-machinist dynamics, changes in shop since 1963, colleague reminiscences.
