Childhood: Mendoza, Argentina; grammar and secondary school education; engineering degree, University of Buenos Aires, 1938, and post-graduate studies in geophysics, Institute de Petroleo, 1939: teachers, courses, field and lab work; impact of World War II; employment with government oil company Yacimientos Petroliferos Fiscales: instrument development and descriptions; International Geophysical Year, 1957: geophysical lab work on a Lamont Geological Observatory [Lamont] Vema cruise; Guggenheim Fellow at Lamont, 1959-1962: gypsum relief maps of ocean floor topography, social life; funding issues for Argentinean scientists; reflections on family and colleagues.
