Scope and Contents

Childhood and colonial education in India and higher education at the University of Mysore in India, Ruskin College, and Oxford University in the United Kingdom. Description of the effects of World War II in India and Jain's participation in the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND). Teaching at Delhi University, affiliation with the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), work with the Indian Council for Social Science Research. Research of the Self-Employed Women's association (SEWA) and association with the Women's World Banking in India and the UN Development Programme (UNDP). Work with Swedish International development Agency (SIDA), Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), Development Alternatives for Women in a New Era (DAWN), and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). Argument for feminism as an intellectual discipline and the importance of shifting from equality to a micro-macro link of gender analysis
