Childhood: early experience with family's political activism; education: B.A. Carleton College, M.D., Tufts University, surgical internship at New England medical Center, four-year residency at Yale's Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, military duty in France, two year fellowship at Columbia Presbyterian in Gynelcologic Endrocrinology; response to experience with women dead from illegal abortions; response to racism amongst doctors; illegal education of abortion procedures; significant death of one patient, leading to start of political activism; first New York abortion clinic, July 1970; reminiscences of early research regarding RU-586, Mifepristone, Methotrexate; conflicts with hospital administration; Distinguished Graduate Award for contributions to women's health care, Carleton College, 1996; current abortion legislation pending; reminiscences of performing two illegal abortions
