Early life: Born in Jamaica, West Indies, 1939; moved with family to New York after WWII, memories of early childhood and schooling; education: scholarship to Harvard University; one of twelve black students, member of Crimson Key Society at Harvard; time in Jamaica after graduation, graduate work at Cornell University, narrow avoidance of draft in 1963; career: coordinator for Urban League of Westchester establishing Neighborhood Youth Corps, coordinator for National Urban League, organizer of Black Analysis group, involvement with civil rights groups; position as program officer at Carnegie Corporation, discussion of various activities and people involved with Carnegie Corporation and other foundations.
