Pifer, chairperson, Haskins Committee on Board Diversity, women's role on the board; chairperson, Carnegie Board of Trustees, 1975-1980; member, National Defense Research Committee, Office of Scientific Research and Development, advising on U.S. entry into World War II; Army/Navy Scientific Advisory Policy Counselor; board member Asia Foundation; Carnegie Institute, development of proximity fuse; interest in and travel to Africa; reminiscences of colleagues.
