Biographical Note

The Gay Officers Action League (GOAL) is a fraternal organization that represents and advocates for gay and lesbian police officers. It was founded in 1982 by Charles Henry "Charlie" Cochrane, Jr., a sergeant of the New York City Police Department. The organization provides a place to discuss and advocate against workplace discrimination, and it serves as a liaison between police and the broader LGBTQ community. It also has provided training at the New York Police Academy and for the Jersey City Police Department

The collection documents the history of the Gay Officers Action League (GOAL) and the experiences of LGBTQ police officers The collection's narrators are Sam Ciccone, David Leavitt, Eddie Murphy, and Pedro L. Velasquez
