Biographical Note

Turkish military officer; took part in Balkan War, 1912-1913; served at Gallipoli and in Palestine in World War I; colonel in command of 12th Army Corps; cavalry commander at Sakarya in Turkish War of Independence; deputy of first Grand National Assembly, Ankara; author of "Istiklāl harbimizde süvari kolordusu" and other works

Scope and Contents

At his request, Altay was taped reading three brief statements in lieu of being recorded in conversation. Topics of discussion include Atatürk’s accomplishment at Gallipoli; relations between Atatürk and Enver Paşa; Atatürk and democracy; General Ali Fuat Cebesoy’s differences with Atatürk.
