Scope and Contents

Midwest background; education, masters degree in public health from University of California, Berkeley; Army service in 1943, work for the Institute of Inter-American Affairs (IIAA) in Brazil; description and evaluation of the Amazon Program; description of experiences working in various other Latin American countries for the IIAA during the years 1956-61; observations on Latin American culture, problems of cultural adjustment and administering public health; return to Brazil in late sixties, comparison to earlier stay there; discussion of the effects of traveling on family life; observations on cultural and social differences; anecdotes from years spent traveling; assessment of IIAA's success in Latin America
