Scope and Contents

The Furriers Union oral history collection documents the memories of leaders and rank and file members of the Furriers Joint Council of New York. Recordings were collected by the student-interviewers in Professor Jack Salzman's American history course at Hofstra University. Topics addressed include: shop organizing, recollections of factory work, progressive and Communist politics, and members' participation in the Abraham Lincoln Brigade in the Spanish Civil War The collection's narrators are: Irwin Basche, Morris Brier, Moe Dobis, Marion Glickas, Fitz Morris, Joseph Pesce, and Ben Salzman
