Smith: boyhood and education, career in New York State Assembly, terms as Governor, 1928 campaign, civil rights stands, Prohibition; Tammany Hall; 1927 Governors' Conference; Smith's differences with Franklin D. Roosevelt. Impressions of Belle Moskowitz, Robert Moses, William Randolph Hearst, and Mayors James Walker and Fiorello La Guardia. Ordering of topics differs slightly in audio and transcript. Towards the end of the audio recordings, Warner addresses topics that relate to page 54 and 77a-e in the transcript
