Biographical Note

Ealan Wingate was born in Tel Aviv, Israel. He began his career as Director of the Sonnabend Gallery New York, and is Director of Gagosian Gallery in New York

Scope and Contents

Ealan Wingate, director of the Gagosian Gallery, describes his youth and introduction to collecting. He discusses his time working with Ileana Sonnabend in the 1970s, when he was involved with the installation of Rauschenberg's Early Egyptians and Venetians in Venice, as well as the Spreads and Scales in New York. He also focuses on his experiences in New York galleries throughout the 1980s, the professionalization of the New York art world, and his tenure as director at Gagosian Gallery displaying Rauschenberg's Gluts and Borealis works and the Paris-based Robert Rasuchenberg gallery show in 2010
