Scope and Contents

On the audio from the first tape, David Weingard discusses his youth in Brownsville; his parents' work in sweatshops; his father's involvement with labor groups such as Workmen's Circle; his parents' Jewish cultural milieu on Lower East Side after immigration; Weingard's training as teacher and dissatisfaction with it; work for accounting firm; and volunteer work in civilian Russian War Relief during World War II. The interview has two additional tapes, which are not yet digitized
