Scope and ContentsKanita Boone discusses her perspective on social inequality, race and personal agency as they impact Black Americans' interactions with law enforcement, the prison system and crime. She talks about her reasons for joining the police force and her desire to make a difference in her community. She speaks to the range of class and economic experiences in the young people she has encountered who later are incarcerated. Kanita describes the community engagement work that she has started on her own to support youth, as well as her role as a Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) officer. She also speaks to the impact of sports on her childhood, placing an emphasis on the importance of teamwork, and how this lead to her coaching youth league basketball
