Biographical NoteDickie Landry was born in Cecilia, LA. A saxophonist and composer, his solo career has included more than 600 concerts in the United States and internationally. He has collaborated with such artists as Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, David Byrne and the Talking Heads, Robert Plant, Laurie Anderson, and more
Scope and ContentsRichard "Dickie" Landry talks about his childhood in Cecilia, Louisiana and the beginnings of his interest in music and art. He describes his move to New York City in 1969 and how he quickly fell in with a community of artists, musicians, and dancers that included Robert Rauschenberg. He talks about meeting Philip Glass, and being invited to join the Philip Glass Ensemble. He discusses his first solo concert, held at the Castelli Gallery and facilitated by Rauschenberg. Landry reflects on being invited by Rauschenberg to perform in Mexico City, Cuba, Moscow, and the National Gallery in Washington DC as part of the Rauschenberg Overseas Cultural Interchange (ROCI). Landry addresses the profound influence of Rauschenberg's friendship and artistic vision on his later musical endeavors
