Biographical Note

Lawrence Sealey was born in the Bronx and was raised in the Bronx, Harlem and Brooklyn and has six siblings

Scope and Contents

Lawrence Sealey has experience with mass incarceration through his brother, Norman, who was frequently incarcerated, as well as his step father and his son. He describes growing up in New York City and seeing his mother's economic hardship and his stepfather's incarceration. He talks about how his brother and his stepson were incarcerated. He describes the parenting choices he has made to protect his children. Sealey describes losing a son to gun violence and the effects that had on him. He also discusses the differences in sentencing between white and Black people and the effects of that on his family
