Biographical Note

Grace Kennan Warnecke has had a multi-faceted career as an NGO leader, foundation executive, small business development expert, writer, and photographer. She has studied Russian History and literature at Radcliffe College, founded the Volkhov International Small Business Incubator in Russia, and served as director of the Alliance of American and Russian Women, the Executive Vice President of the Women's Economic Empowerment project, and Ukraine Country Director for Winrock International. She currently serves as Chairman of the Board of the National Committee on American Foreign Policy, and is outgoing chair of the National Advisory Council at Harriman

Scope and Contents

The first session of Grace Kennan Warnecke's covers her early life and career, ending with her connection to the Harriman Institute. She discusses her experience growing up in a diplomatic family and moving constantly, often internationally, and her respective introductions to Russian language, Russian studies, photography, and journalism. The second session, This session focuses on Kennan Warnecke's relationship with former Harriman Institute Director Catharine Nepomnyashchy, her observation of and experiences with Harriman throughout her career, her experiences with other Russian-focused academic centers (particularly the Kennan Institute) and her views on the relationship between academia and government
