Biographical NotePriscilla Wald obtained her PhD in English from Columbia in 1989 and returned to Columbia to teach in the early 1990s before coming up for tenure. Her early work dealt with narrative in literature and culture of the late-18th to mid-20th centuries and current work has expanded to include narratives of global health and challenges to the concept of the human being following the scientific and technological innovations in the wake of WWII. While not an active member of IRWAG during her time at Columbia, she was close with a number of its leaders and can provide an account of her time in the English department during one of its most contentious eras. Wald teaches at Duke University in English and Women's Studies
