Biographical Note

Antonio was born in Havana, Cuba in 1974. He is a musician and has played drums in several Cuban bands. Due to physical problems with his back, he had to abandon his military service. In addition to music, Antonio worked in films and was a nightclub custodian. He is a descendant of enslaved people. He belongs to the Yoruba religion. Antonio was interviewed for the project that led to the book How Things Fall Apart. The name is a pseudonym for the project Antonio nació en La Habana, Cuba, en 1974. Él es músico y ha tocado la batería en varios grupos cubanos. Debido a problemas físicos en su espalda, debió abandonar el servicio militar. Además de dedicarse a la música, Antonio trabajó en películas y fue custodio en una discoteca. Es descendiente de personas que fueron esclavizadas. Pertenece a la religión yoruba. Antonio fue entrevistado para el proyecto que culminó en la publicación del libro How Things Fall Apart. El nombre es un seudónimo para el proyecto

Scope and Contents

In the interview, Antonio talks about his work as a musician, the difficulties in acquiring instruments and his bond with music. Antonio recalls the Special Period and the departure of his friends from the country. He also recalls his bond with foreign women, who gave him the opportunity to go into exile. Antonio and the interviewer talk about food. Finally, Antonio comments on his customs as a practitioner of Santeria En la entrevista, Antonio dialoga sobre su trabajo como músico, las dificultades para adquirir instrumentos y su vínculo con la música. Antonio recuerda el Período Especial y la partida de sus amigos. También recuerda su vínculo con mujeres extranjeras, quienes le dieron la oportunidad de exiliarse. Antonio y la entrevistadora dialogan sobre comidas. Por último, Antonio comenta sus costumbres como practicante de la santería
