Oral history interview with Danny, 2008

Biographical Note

Danny was born in Central Granma, Cuba in 1950. His father was a farm laborer. Danny attended the School of Commerce. He worked in the internal administration of the People's Power and in the creation of the Agro-Industrial Complexes (CAI). He was in charge of the control of finances and economy of different companies in Central Granma. He retired in 2003. He had two children. Danny was interviewed for the project that led to the book How Things Fall Apart. The name is a pseudonym for the project Danny nació en Central Granma, Cuba, en 1950. Su padre era obrero agrícola. Danny asistió a la Escuela de Comercio. Trabajó en la administración interna del Poder Popular y en la creación de los Complejos Agro-Industriales (CAI). Se encargó del control de finanzas y economía de diferentes empresas en Central Granma. Se jubiló en el 2003. Tuvo dos hijos. Danny fue entrevistado para el proyecto que culminó en la publicación del libro How Things Fall Apart. El nombre es un seudónimo para el proyecto

Scope and Contents

Danny begins the interview by discussing his family and his education. He then recalls his first jobs. Danny discusses the 1970 harvest, harvest problems, and the lack of agricultural technology in Cuba. Danny recalls the creation of the agricultural cooperatives, the Mariel Exodus, and the Special Period. He also discusses the economic blockade and the link with the Soviet Union.
