Biographical Note

Rokatar was born on September 25, 1954 in Songo-La Maya, Cuba. His father died when he was seven years old. In 1967, he joined the Red Beret guerrilla. In 1969, he moved to Havana and began military service. He trained as a dairy machinery maintenance mechanic while working for the company Mueble y Envase. He participated in the wars in Angola and Ethiopia. He joined the Young Communist League in 1974 and the Communist Party in 1981. He had two sons. Rokatar was interviewed for the project that led to the book How Things Fall Apart. The name is a pseudonym for the project Rokatar nació el 25 de septiembre de 1954 en Songo-La Maya, Cuba. Su padre murió cuando tenía siete años. En 1967, se incorporó a la guerrilla Boina Roja. En 1969, se mudó a La Habana y comenzó el servicio militar. Se formó como mecánico de mantenimiento de maquinarias lácteas mientras trabajaba en la empresa Mueble y Envase. Participó en las guerras de Angola y Etiopía. Scope and Contents

In the interview, Rokatar discusses his birth, his involvement in the Red Beret guerrillas as a teenager and his time in military service. Then, Rokatar discusses the relationship between boys and girls when he was a child. He recalls his participation in the 1970 harvest in Matanzas. Rokatar also recalls his participation in Angola and Ethiopia and his role as an anti-aircraft scout. Rokatar discusses business dealings related to religion.
