Early childhood: segregation and racial prejudice in the South; Howard University, BA 1920; Urban League Fellow, New York School of Social Work, 1920-21: training in psychoanalytical and client oriented social work, casework in New York slums and settlements; District Supervisor, St. Louis Provident Association, 1926-36; DSW, University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work; Dean Howard University School of Social Work, 1940-67: sexism and racism in academe, growth of minority involvement in social work, schism between radical and moderate social workers, civil rights movement, campus unrest during 1960s, changes in ideologies of three generations of black intellectuals.
