English childhood; movies in England, 1930s and 1940s: newsreel theaters, interiors of movie houses, availability of films, film societies; activities while stationed in Germany, 1945-47; immigration to United States, 1950; researcher and writer for television series MOVIE MUSEUM, 1956-60; lecturing on film at various colleges, 1960s and 1970s; screening of BEN HUR silent original, 1959; Metro Goldwyn Mayer reaction, Federal Bureau of Investigation involvement; collection and preservation of silent and early sound films; consultant, Fox Preservation Program; writing: FILMS IN REVIEW, books on Claudette Colbert, Laurel and Hardy, westerns; opinions on experimental and post-1960 films; reminiscences of Paul Killiam, David Wolper, Alexander Gordon, Richard Gordon.
