Background and early education; Yale Law School, 1938-41; work with New York law firm Debevoise-Plimpton, 1941-42, 1945-47; service in U.S. Navy, 1942-45; move to Cincinnati, 1947; early involvement in politics as City Council member, Cincinnati; appointment to seat as federal judge, 6th Circuit, 1954; appointment to the United States Supreme Court, 1958; procedures and protocol of the Supreme Court; various cases of the Supreme Court, 1958-81.
