Scope and Contents

New York election of 1949: A series of interviews and speeches on the New York City and State elections of 1949 in an attempt to record history as it transpired and to cover all candidates and parties. Discussion of the issues of the campaign, including federal aid to education, Communism, municipal corruption, and minority problems is combined with analyses of political organization and technique, voting of religious and nationality groups, and the effect of labor union support and newspaper coverage upon the election.
