W.H. Frink, A. A. Brill, Otto Rank, Franz Alexander; New York psychoanalytic movement, 1920s and 1930s; activities and associations as lecturer in anthropology, Columbia University; chairman of Columbia Psychoanalytic Clinic's research seminar on comparative analysis of cultures, 1939-51; director, 1955-57; development as practicing psychoanalyst, interest in anthropology; research in the relation of psychiatry and the social sciences; discussion of his major books.
