Scope and Contents

A collaborative project with the Foundation for Iranian Studies, the memoirs in this collection trace the development and implementation of American policy after World War II. Memoirists include a variety of American and Iranian officials involved in that policy, especially American Foreign Officers who served in Iran. Among the topics discussed are: Iranian history, geopolitical considerations, American involvement in the overthrow of Mohammad Mossadeq in 1953, the government of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the royal family, military considerations, United States oil policy, Iranian nationalism, nascent democratic movements, the social and political structure under the Shah, the Nixon Doctrine, the Revolution of 1979, the Hostage Crisis of 1979-1980, and the rise of the Islamic state Participants and pagination of transcripts: Richard T.
