Early childhood and family life; Columbia College and Columbia Law School, 1920's; early law practice; swift rise to wealth as a real estate investor; marriage and family life; early interest in philanthropy; active support for Brandeis University; establishment of the Wien International Scholarship Program; involvement with Federation of Jewish Philanthropies; involvement with Committee to increase Corporate Philanthropic Giving; support of Camp Vacamus; support for Lincoln Center; painful struggle against terminal illness; philosophy behind philanthropic giving. The formal interview is followed by a recording of the radio program "IBM Salute to the Arts" from February 8, 1989, which Wien's family donated to accompany the interview
