Childhood: born Newark, New Jersey, son of social activists; Rutgers University: B.A., political science, economics, 1949-1954; Harvard University Law School: Juris Doctor, 1954-1957; employment with New Jersey Supreme Court chief justice; head, criminal division of United States Attorney's Office for the District of New Jersey; Department of Justice, Washington, D.C.: assistant to attorney general, investigation of 1967 riots; association with Henry Ford Foundation, 1968: program analysis, formation of public law advisory committee, grantmaking, repercussions of 1969 Tax Reform Act on foundations, acquisition of litigation committees, interest in dispute resolution; role of environmental protection groups in public interest law; director, Center for Negotiation and Conflict Resolution, Rutgers University, 1985-present; reminiscences of colleagues.
