Born Novi Sad, Vojvodina, Serbia [formerly the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia]; education: MS forensic pathology and PhD neuropathology University of Novi Sad, forensic pathology; memories of Serb and US bombing campaigns, autopsies conducted during 1993 civil war, avoidance of military service due to injury, immigration to the United States; 9/11: studying at lab, people beginning to run around lab, watching television coverage, preparing lab to receive material from ground zero, DNA extraction and identification procedures, improvisation in the laboratory, long hours at the lab.
