Born Kabul, Afghanistan; education: secular schools in Afghanistan, studies in France and Italy, establishment of Fine Arts Department at Kabul University; experiences during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, escape to Pakistan and immigration to the US; experiences working menial jobs; membership in Sculpture Academy; 9/11: sound of plane crash, videotaping second plane impact; television coverage, role of media after attacks, changes in political beliefs, religious reflections.
