Background: Puerto Rican parents, childhood in New York City; education: B.A social work Lehman College, M.A. Long Island University, Ph.D. Nova Southeastern University; career: counseling for non-profit organizations, junior high school teacher, teaching at Borough of Manhattan Community College [BMCC]; 9/11: disruption of daily routine, commuting to work from Queens, learning of attacks while at McDonald's, walking home, contacting students; post-9/11: establishment of hotline to counsel college student survivors, process of reopening college, loss of friends and colleagues, necessity and difficulties of counseling survivors, daily appreciation of life; changing role at BMCC, co-advisor to Latino Honor Society and Latino Americans Unidos, promotion to assistant professor.
