Born Punjab, India; recollections of Indo-Pakistani wars of 1965 and 1971; discussion of Sikh religion; education: Punjabi University, Patiali, India; career: difficulties finding job in Cleveland, OH due to ethnicity, move to New York City, institutional aide for the City of New York, work in Human Resources Administration, work as independent consultant and computer programmer, chairman of Sikh Cultural Society of New York; 9/11: witnessing events on television, unsuccessful attempts to visit friend in hospital in Philadelphia, PA, prayer at gurdwara; post-9/11: arson at Sikh Cultural Society, obstacles faced in attempts to rebuild gurdwara, educational outreach to non-Sikhs, hiring of public relations firm, growth of Sikh Day Parade, economic difficulties.
