Born Bethesda, MD; childhood Long Island; education: BS biology Adelphi University (1978); career: volunteer firefighter (1975), City of New York Emergency Medical Services (1978), Flushing Hospital life support unit, graduation from paramedic training (1979), promotion to lieutenant (1983), involvement in 1993 World Trade Center bombing response, New York Task Force One search and rescue team, 1995 Oklahoma City bombing; 9/11: discovery of events at LaGuardia Airport.
