Rose Director of the Hayden Planetarium, astrophysicist and member of the Department of Astrophysics of the American Museum of Natural History; 9/11: witnessing fire in North Tower through binoculars, filming with digital camera from roof, witnessing second plane impact and collapse of both towers, walk through streets, departure from city via Grand Central Station; discussion of sensory distortion and emotional response; post-9/11: daughter's memory of event, contemplation of religion and politics, concern over air quality and clean-up effort, effect of terrorism alerts, discussion of memorial, comparisons to other disasters, discussion of future threats; reflections on politics, media, terrorism and the invasion of Iraq
