Background: born Albany, NY; childhood East Lyme, CT; one year in Ireland; education: high school exchange student in South Africa, History and Women's Studies Wesleyan University, M.A. Business Journalism Baruch College; career: nonprofit work, consultant, editor, journalist, work for Reuters; 9/11: watching television with roommate, volunteering, disruption of local community; post-9/11: memorial at Union Square, vigil in plaza outside of the U.N., reconsideration of career plans, thoughts on patriotism, visits to World Trade Center site, sympathy for police officers and firemen; religious reflections; political interest in Fidel Castro and Robert Mugabe, admiration for Nelson Mandela and South Africa's transition, thoughts about Afghanistan, disagreement with invasion of Iraq; racial profiling and discrimination, murder of journalist Daniel Pearl.
