Born Manhattan; childhood White Plains, NY; education: coursework in broadcast journalism New York University; career: textile designer, children books writer and illustrator, public school art teacher; 9/11: in school classroom, sound of North Tower plane impact, sight of fires in World Trade Center [WTC] towers, parents concern for their children, radio news; post-9/11: obsession with television news coverage, quiet of city, anecdotes of friends who lost loved ones; temporary school closings, support staff for parents and students, student response; feeling of vulnerability, contemplation of career change, attachment to NYC skyline; visits to WTC site; discussion of Israel.
