Biographical Note

Kenneth Gibson was Mayor of Newark, New Jersey from 1970-1986

Scope and Contents

This recording of Newark Mayor Kenneth Gibson is a mixture of oral history interviewing and a soundscape of a day in the Newark Mayor's office. The recording was generated during a visit by an unidentified graduate student from the Columbia University School of Journalism. During breaks in the workday, the student interviews Gibson on topics such as the operations of the office, New Jersey politics, and Gibson's policy priorities as mayor. Interspersed with these interview segments are recordings of meetings, phone calls, and logistical conversations with staff
