Born in Taiwan, came to New York City in 1984, attended PS [Public School] 124; Family background: parents factory workers, abusive father; assimilation: learning Cantonese and English, moving from Chinatown to Staten Island, difficulties fitting in at school, discrimination; gang member: joining gang, bringing in undocumented workers, holding people for ransom, collecting money from restaurants, tattoos, treatment of women, violence, negative experiences; working as an art director for a marketing company, supporting mother, helping young people
