Born 1921 in central Jamaica. Education: secondary school at Jamaica College, studied economics at London School of Economics. Career: Jamaican civil service (War Information Office, Department of Statistics, head of Central Planning Agency), Executive Board of International Monetary Fund (IMF), Jamaican ambassador to United Nations (UN), president of Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), chairman of Group of 77, president of UN Security Council, Chairman of Commonwealth Foundation.
