Background: born 1916 in Baltimore, MD; education: music at Larry London Music School; served Army 1942-1946; career: brief experience as songwriter in New York City, photographer at Royal Theatre in Baltimore, photographer at Apollo Theater; reminiscences of interactions with Apollo performers such as Billie Holiday, Charlie Parker, Sammy Davis, and Louis Armstrong; anecdotes of Apollo's management under Frank, Jack, and Bobby Schiffman
