Biographical Note

Disc-jockey, radio personality, community activist and philanthropist

Scope and Contents

Started dj'ing at age of 16; worked shows in DC and NY, sometimes shuttling between several shows in DC and Baltimore in one day. Speaks about mutual support between him and Malcolm X; him and Frank Schiffman. Co-owned Apollo with Percy Sutton between Bobby Schiffman's departure in 1974 and its reinvention as a non-profit in the 90s. Explains process of lending Apollo to charities for events; Frank Schiffman's help. "What we were trying to do was do things on a love scale."
